Interview to
BLACKOUSTIC for “Leones Sin Jaula”
Thank you very much for your time.
1. Why did
you record “Blackoustic” album and why did you choose this songs?
¿Porqué grabaste el álbum
“Blackoustic” y porqué elegiste esas canciones?
JANI: We had
been doing the acoustic shows together for a while, and back then we had only
been playing in Finland so we got this crazy idea of recoding an album of our
acoustic versions to let our fans all over the world hear what we had been up
to. Also it was something neither of us had ever done before so it was a nice
challenge and a change of pace. As we had been playing live for a while already
we had quite a decent pool of songs to choose from at that point so the choice
of songs was fairly natural. We also wanted to add something special and
different so we decided to do an acoustic version of a song called “Karjalan
Kunnailla”, which is a traditional song sung in Finnish, just to surprise some
people :)
Por
un tiempo hemos estado tocando juntos solamente en Finlandia, entonces tuvimos
la loca idea de grabar un álbum con nuestras versiones acústicas para
permitirles a los fans de todo el mundo escuchar que habíamos hecho. También
era algo que ninguno de noostros había hecho anteriormente, entonces era un
lindo desafío y un cambio de ritmo. Como habíamos tocado en vivo por un tiempo
nosotros teníamos un grupo decente de canciones para elegir, entonces la
elección de las mismas fue bastante natural. Nosotros también queríamos agregar
algo especial y diferente, por eso decidimos hacer una versión acústica de una
canción llamada “Karjalan Kunnailla”, que es una tradicional canción cantada en
Finés, sólo para sorprender a alguna gente :)
2. In
Blackoustic concerts, do you play any song that is not in the album?
En los conciertos de
Blackoustic, ¿tocan alguna canción que no se encuentra en el álbum?
JANI: Yes, we
do. The album has been out for a few years already so our setlist has evolved
quite a bit. We have been doing some Stratovarius and Cain’s Offering songs
that had not been written yet when “Blackoustic” came out. We also do some
covers that we like a lot, some classic stuff like Dio, Iron Maiden etc.

lo hacemos. El álbum ya fue lanzado hace pocos años, entonces nuestro setlist
fue evolucionando un poco. Hacemos algunas canciones de Stratovarius y Cain's
Offering que no fueron escritas para el tiempo de que “Blackoustic” fue
lanzado. También hacemos algunos covers que nos gustan un montón, algunos
clásicos como Dio, Iron Maiden, etc.
3. Will you
record a new CD with this musical project in the future?
¿Grabarán
en el futuro un nuevo CD con este proyecto musical?
JANI: We have
been talking about it, but so far we have been just way too busy to give it any
real thought. Hopefully in the future we can find the time to make a second
album and take things one step further.
Hemos
hablado sobre eso, pero estamos muy ocupados para poder realmente pensar en
eso. Con suerte en el futuro podamos encontrar el tiempo para hacer un segundo
álbum y llevar las cosas un paso más lejos.
4. What are
your expectations about next Latin American tour?
¿Cuáles son tus expectativas
sobre el próximo tour en Latinoamérica?
JANI: We are
really excited about it. For a long time we were basically just joking that it
would be great to go and tour Latin America as a duo, but it felt kind of an
out-there idea. But now we are actually gonna do it and it will sure as hell be
a tour to remember!
Estamos
realmente entusiasmados. Por un largo tiempo básicamente estuvimos haciendo
bromas de que sería bueno ir y recorrer Latinoamérica como un dúo, pero se
sentía como algo lejano. ¡Pero ahora estamos por hacerlo y estaremos seguros de
que va a ser un tour para recordar!
5. What was
your experience in Buenos Aires? Do you have any anecdote to tell?
¿Cuál
fue tu experiencia en Buenos Aires?
¿Tenés alguna anecdota para contar?
JANI:
Unfortunately I have never been to Buenos Aires before. Was supposed to come
there back in 2002 with Sonata Arctica, but the situation there was so unstable
we were not able to do it. I am very grateful I get to remedy the situation
now. Ask me again in June and I’m sure I’ll have plenty of funny anecdotes to
share :)
Desafortunadamente
nunca he ido a Buenos Aires. Supuestamente iba a ir en 2002 con Sonata Arctica,
pero la situación allá era muy inestable y no pudimos hacerlo. Estoy muy
agradecido de que puedo remediar la situación ahora. Preguntame de vuelta en
Junio y estoy seguro de que tendré muchas anécdotas graciosas para compartir :)
6. Do you
have any musical influences nowadays?
¿Tenés
algunas influencias musicales en la actualidad?
JANI: My
musical horizons are pretty broad nowadays. I still love all kinds of metal,
but am also really into film music, electronic music and also into some pop
stuff. The world is filled with great music so I just try and let anything that
sounds good in and draw something new out of it.
Mis
horizontes musicales son bastante amplios actualmente. Me siguen gustando todos
los tipos del metal, pero realmente estoy escuchando mucha música de películas,
música electrónica y también algo de pop. El mundo esta lleno de buena música,
entonces sólo intento y dejo lo que sea que se escuche bien y dibujo algo nuevo
con eso.
7. Tell me
about your plans for the future.
Hablame de tus planes para el
futuro.
JANI: I pretty
recently released an album called “The Dark Element” with Anette Olzon, so I
have been taking some time off. Recently I have started writing again though,
so lets see where it goes. I have also shitloads of shows booked for the
Spring, both with Timo and with some other bands so it’s gonna be busy. Timo is
currently working on the next Stratovarius album, so we both have a lot on our
plates at the moment :)
He
lanzado hace muy poco un álbum llamado “The Dark Element” con Anette Olzon, por
eso estuve ausente algún tiempo. Recientemente he empezado a escribir, así que
veremos que saldrá. También tengo muchos shows contradados para la primavera
junto a Timo y con otras bandas, entonces voy a estar ocupado. Timo actualmente
está trabajando con el nuevo álbum de Stratovarius, así que estamos desbordados
de trabajo en este momento :)
